About Trinity Preschool . . .

Trinity Preschool is committed to being a Christian program with a developmentally appropriate approach. Trinity’s goal throughout each area of the center is to help establish the foundation for each child’s relationship with Jesus Christ, the church, and the people of God. We want each child to experience at their own level the Christian life. We love each child and trust that they also will learn to love. We present ourselves to the children as trustworthy and dependable. We are committed to helping them learn to trust and grow in faith.

Trinity Preschool's History . . .

Trinity Preschool is the oldest private program serving preschool age children in Modesto.

The school was begun in the fall of 1967, a little over a year after the newly formed Trinity Presbyterian Church moved into their two new buildings on Carver Road. Trinity’s founding Pastor, George Telle, wanted the church to serve preschool age children in a part day program. He enlisted the volunteer help of LaNita Ward to be the teacher of a once a week, two-hour morning program. A class of 12 three-year olds was gathered.

That first year the program was not a licensed preschool, but a pilot program to discern the church’s interest. Before the school year was over, the church was determined to move forward and offer a weekday preschool to families in the community.

Trinity Preschool became a licensed center in September, 1968. The program was Tuesday and Thursday mornings, serving three and four year old children, from 9 – 11 am. Marilyn Howell Schindler was chair of the newly established Preschool Board.

Within a year, the program expanded to two classes, one MWF, the other TTh. The part day preschool model continued for the next decade under several different directors. In the late 1970’s, Kathy Jepson became the Director. During the two decades that she led Trinity Preschool, it grew and expanded in many ways.

One of the first changes was the creation of the “Lunch Bunch” for children staying after 11am. Parents soon were asking that the program be expanded to serve children earlier in the morning. It wasn’t long before Trinity Preschool became a full day child-care program.

"Our two sons have spent three happy and wonderful years at Trinity Nursery School.. The staff provided a very loving, nurturing and safe environment for them while developing their social skills and confidence and preparing them for Kindergarten. Our boys learned so much while at Trinity Nursery School including music and science! They are really going to miss their teachers and the wonderful friends that they made there."
